One person's junk is another person's ROCK !

What better way to get rid of your old crap than to sell it at the local rock n' roll bar?

The Rockin' Swap Meet is the perfect opportunity for a music buff to sell their stuff and have fun while doing it.  Join other collectors, as they gather to rummage, buy, sell, trade, and admire a variety of wares and treasures. So, show up and bring whatever you have: books, CDs, DVDs, artwork, posters, vinyl records, musician's gear, you name it. Set your goods up at a table and make some extra cash (no strings attached). Or just show up to shop while enjoying a beer and mingling with fellow rockers. This is not your typical garage sale. This event is centered around sharing MUSIC of all kinds, styles, eras, etc.

Also featured that night, MOFO Karoake: the coolest karaoke around with thousands of songs to choose from (without the crappy ones) and more of the unique/obscure ones you've been searching for. Karoake singers are treated to a full stage with lighting, bubble and smoke machines, props, etc. Be the coolest karaoke performer on the block, come to MOFO Karoake.

The purpose of the Rockin' Swap Meet and MOFO Karoake event is to have fun, make some money, barter/trade for treasures, walk away with cool new stuff, sing karaoke, and socialize.

This event is free and open to ages 18+

Rockin' Swap Meet tables are free and available on a first come/first serve basis, so just show up and set up.

Take those old records off the shelf - and sell them

Rockin' Swap Meet held every month
Sunday, February 18, 2007

The Rockin' Swap Meet just helps prove the adage that one man's trash is another's treasure.

Where better to unload your old rock and roll records (remember them?), cassette tapes (ditto), old guitars, microphones and even a KISS action figure doll than at this monthly event at the Elbow Room bar in Ypsilanti.

If the lure of getting rid of - or scoring - cool stuff weren't enough, there's also entertainment and a chance for you to unleash your inner Stooge; Rockin' Swap Meet is held in conjunction with the club's regular Thursday karaoke. Just imagine - you can shop, sell or trade with a beer in hand and even perform your own version of "I Wanna Be Your Dog.''

As for the swap meet, "there is no fee, no cover, no strings attached. Just show up and buy and sell for fun,'' said Kyle Kipp (aka KK Dirty Money), who plays in the band The 77s and who brought the idea to Ann Arbor.

"It's not an original idea, but it's a good idea,'' he said, adding that similar swap meets are ongoing in clubs elsewhere, including Detroit.

"This is a rock and roll club so we try to sell rock stuff,'' Kipp explained, adding that he made $150 recently by selling surplus posters, CDs, microphones and a bass amp.

So what kind of bargains can a music lover score? Last month's items included several crates of records (Wings, Genesis, Ry Cooder, The Doors, Lou Reed, The Ventures and even - inexplicably - the Carpenters), some books, T-shirts, music videos and an acoustic guitar.

"I'm not going to listen to this stuff. I would rather get it to someone who is going to use it,'' Adam Berg, drummer in the Ypsilanti R&B band The Boomerangs, said, referring to his boxes of surplus discs and tapes.

Tom Robbins, the Boomerangs' bass player, said the key to successful selling is to not buy someone else's castoffs. "Maybe you will trade something for something else - the main thing is not to spend any money. Our mantra is 'we're here to sell.'''

The next Rockin' Swap Meet is Thursday. Doors open at 9, but most buyers and sellers show up a little later. Details: http://kkipp.com/rummage.html.
